The word lachryphagy combines two words — one Latin, and one Greek. The Latin word lacrima means tear, which is why tear ducts are called lacrimal ducts. The Greek word phagos means one that eats. So lachryphagy translates as tear eating.

Last Spring, I was working in the park and saw a butterfly hovering around turtles. I was in awe of two my favorite critters encounter together and later I found out that wasn't random, the butterflies were there to drink turtle's tears. Those tears are mixtures of water, mucus, salt, proteins and fats. I felt so inspired by the delicate interconnection in nature and altruism that layouts in this relationship.

For this Zoetrope Fountain , I ALSO made all the glazes as displayed. Big shout to Molly, who started in the first move with the base recipe and was happy to collaborate with me on the color experiments. Thank you JJ PEET for teaching, encouraging and pushing us continue trying and experimenting.
